The Season (yes one) of Your Soul

Since I am so very Canadian I literally cannot help myself from talking about the weather. Where I live in Canada is a place that experiences all four seasons in all their glory and all their agony. We go from sunburns to shoveling heavy snow but we also go from floating in a lake on a sunny day to the joy of tobogganing down a big hill.

OK, so I’m going to talk about seasons…. ugh. To be honest I don’t like this analogy of seasons because the promise of winter around the corner year after year after year is so hopeless. I believe God’s promises don’t depend on a season… they solely depend on God. He is always faithful, always trustworthy, always present, always full of grace and truth.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope” .

I know...This verse is USED ALL THE TIME. My point in bringing it up is that God’s plans for you is an arrow that continues to move forward and up! It is not a curved arrow spinning into another curved arrow - its is not a cycle of going from spring -> summer -> fall -> winter REPEAT. It is one direction - God’s direction of good, not disaster, a future, and hope.

Let me be clear - I am not preaching prosperity, sunshine, rainbows and unicorns. We know as believers we can expect trials and persecutions. We can expect attacks from the enemy that can successfully take us down. We live in the broken world where pain, loss, death, sadness, stress exist, AND among those times of distress, we can cling to a good father who knows how to turn death into life, sadness into joy, distress into peace. This is an internal process as we experience God in the depth of our soul; in our greatest needs. As the storm furies around us the prince of peace settles everything within us.

Romans 8:20-21 (NLT)

“Against its will, all creation was subject to God's curse.  But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death and decay."

Creation - still under curse - eagerly waits to join US - the children of God. We are no longer under the curse, we received freedom from decay and death - but creation has yet to experience the freedom we have in Christ. Please stop dreading the winter season of your soul - it doesn’t exist. You are simply with God and He is good - no matter the snow or sunburn. Yes, we can expect suffering, and even more so we can expect God to continue to move us forward in growth and not a cycle of life, decay, death, and growth . You are reborn, you are new, you have breakthrough from the curse right into the glory of God.

Romans 8:30

“and having chosen them (believers) he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, HE GAVE THEM HIS GLORY.”

Christ’s glory (victory) is ours! He gave it to us…. so stop anticipating the winter of your soul...it doesn't exist.
